Nick Hawk, who competes under his real name, Nicholas Haas, had a big debut as a black belt this year taking 1st place in the Dallas Open and 2nd place at the World Championship in Anaheim, CA December 16th. Hawk had a 16 man bracket and started the day with a bye. He beat his next two opponents without being scored on. He took out a UFC veteran, two time world champion and legend, Fabricio Camoes in the semis. Nick was looking good going into the finals. He said, "That was the best I've ever felt and the most fun I've ever had. I'm just getting started." But he didn't prevail. He lost 2-0, in a close match to Andy Kazik, who was a 40-0 National wrestling champion and Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion as well. Nick said he will be going up to Super Heavy(215) from Light-heavy(202) because he usually looses 10 pounds of muscle to compete at light heavy-weight.
